In my editing lessons I created a short music video and a James Bond movie trailer in order to develop some editing skills and to familiarize myself with the 'Adobe Premiere' software. This post shows my edited video's and an evaluation of them.
Olly's Edit Practice
In this clip I mainly used the razor tool to cut up clips and to make them match with the beats in the music. This worked well until i put some of the transitions in, although they didn't work as well with the song i still used the transitions in the piece to show that i knew how to use them. Used some editing features such as the blur in the 'people in the city' clip and the wavy line at the end in the bird-eye shot of the city. My favorite part of this piece is the transition from where the tiger is dancing to the car with the shark and the tiger in. It worked well because the sliding transition moved along with the long brass note in the music.
Bond Editing Practice
I wasn't overly happy with this piece as a whole however i did manage to use some more features that i didn't use in the last one, for example the black and white edited part in the chair scene and the faint blur in the scene where James Bond jumps onto the truck. The sliding doors transition at the end of the action pact section in the second half of the video didn't work as well as the last video due to some random blackness in the scene, i have now worked out that it was because i placed the the transition in before the clip it goes into. It is mistakes like this that will improve my editing ability. The music worked good with the video however the way i presented it wasn't great, it was meant to die down in the middle to create suspense but it didn't work, this is something i need to work at.
I feel that after these experiments i am more confident with adobe premiere than before. I also found out that i prefer it in a windows computer to a mac as i see it as better organised and easier to use.
